Description

We will need to release an "official" JDK1.5 compatible JAR if we want to be part of Solr/Lucene 3.x release because of Apache pressure for non-JAR releases.

This is urgent, I'll work on it.

There are 1.6 dependencies in 3.x repo:

  • morfologik-stemming-1.5.1 (latest morfologik-stemming-1.5.1; neither comes with 1.5 compat.)
  • mahout-math-0.5.jar (latest 0.6; neither comes with 1.5 compat.)
  • hppc-0.4.1 (does come with -jdk15 jar).

Ignorable built-time stuff:

  • org.carrot2.antlib.jar
  • org.carrot2.bindables.jar

Thinking what to do next.

Currently in Solr:

  • hppc-0.3.4-jdk15.jar (exists in maven repo),
  • mahout-math-0.3 (mahout-math 0.4 is still 1.5 compatible and exists in maven repo),
  • morfologik-stemming does not exist (no support for clustering Polish),

We could leave these dependencies as they are (check if they work with existing code though) and provide exclusions/ overrides at ivy/ maven pom level in Solr.

  • We could upgrade to mahout-math 0.4 and mahout-collections 1.0 as part of this, they're both 1.5.

No we couldn't... We're using mahout-math 0.5 APIs so we can't just compile/run against older mahout-math.

I plan to release a backport version 3.5.0.1 which will contain just the carrot2-core compiling (and passing tests) under 1.5. This will be a maintenance release with no functional changes (and no library updates, etc.).

I don't see any other option of upgrading with re-releasing mahout-math (in 1.5 compatible version) which again will conflict with Apache branding policies (we'd need to repackage etc.).
